From The New York Times:“We can put light where there’s darkness, and hope where there’s despondency in this country. And part of it is working together as a nation to encourage folks to own their own home.” — President Bush, Oct. 15, 2002The global financial system was teetering on the edge of collapse when President Bush and his economics team huddled in the Roosevelt Room of the White House for a briefing that, in the words of one participant, “scared the hell out of everybody.”It was Sept.

Making Sense of 2008

Jan 1, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized

I can’t really make sense of 2008, but that’s okay really. The year started off with a trip to the Adult Entertainment Expo, where I had a conversation that would turn into my stint blogging for the Village Voice at for just shy of five months. While in Vegas, I went to my first AVN Awards Ceremony, where I got to see Jenna Jameson talk smack on the industry. I also got news that my film, The Bi Apple, had been nominated for a GayVN Award for Best Bisexual Video. While in Vegas I started shoot

It’s time to put the last Slim Pickings column out of its misery. I might have to revive it during the off season and pick some Premier League soccer games or something. Outback Bowl: Iowa (-3.5) vs South Carolina Iowas beat its lone ranked opponent in Penn State en route to an 8-4 record. South Carolina, on the other hand, faced three ranked opponents and lost each game. They did have a win over an unranked Ole Miss team that was much better than expected. I think I’ll go with the ol’ Ball

Strapya Fukubukuro 2009

Hi Cutie Gadget readers and happy new year! I’m not only a Cute Gadgets lover, but also a cellphone strap lover and collector! In December last year, I decide to try a luck and buy a Strapya Fukubukuro Bag 2009. Fukubukuro means Japanese New Year Lucky Bag. In Japan when new year come, they treat the costumer to get lots of goods in really cheap price. But the rule is: The costumer doesn’t know what’s inside the bag. We cannot choose what’s inside especially if it comes to Online Shopping.

Jump to Comments “The Constant” Season Four, Episode Five Airdate: February 28th, 2008 It should come as no surprise to anyone who reads this blog, or watched Lost’s fourth season, that “The Constant” makes it into Cultural Learnings’ 2008 Television Time Capsule. The story of Desmond Hume’s altered state, trapped between his time on the island and a period years earlier shortly after his breakup with Penny, the episode is the very definition of what made the fourth season of Lost one of its be

ASP’s 2008 Year In Review

Jan 1, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized

I can't believe it's already been another year and here we are with the annual wrap-up. 2008 was a banner year for us here at ASP. We had more unique visits this year than any other year in our history! We also had more successes on the military front than the previous year thanks to the previous year's surge. But, if you weren't around for all of 2008, keep reading and find out what you missed. The following is a list of the posts that elicited the most responses throughout the year. Enjoy!!

It’s a smart idea to cut down corporate cost. Japanese mobile provider Softbank Mobile has teamed-up with Softbank Telecom to launch Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), offering Softbank’s mobile phone as extension to fixed line phone.

Technology Highlights of 2008

What fitting way to end 2008 than a list of my own version of technology-related highlights of 2008. Dells Acquisition of Equallogic Ok. So technically this happened in November of 2007. But the acquisition wasnt completed until early this year. After review of the devices, they are definitely a cost-effective NAS solution. What a great way to introduce storage solutions to small businesses. ASP.NET MVC Again, this technically happened in 2007, but my first experiences really happened this yea

LinuxSlate is his site to give reviews and commentary on Linux as used for mobile and embedded systems. Since then, though, “Crossbow” has been giving capsule and extended reviews of various products that either use Linux out of the box or may

Carrying a battery pack with you to charge your mobile device or using a power adapter for connecting to the nearest power source, is not often convenient. A better alternative to both these issues is using the Solio H1000 Charger. Place the Solio H1000 Charger anywhere, where the sun falls on it for a recharge. This charger is powered by sunlight and hence you don’t have to remember to charge this to charge your devices. It’s late on New Year’s Eve, and we’d just as soon make with the partying, but we had to bring you some last-minute, breaking news: Gov. Jim Gibbons doesn’t want you to ring in the new year without one more reminder that he’s something of a moron. No, the news release sent at 5:38 p.m. from the governor’s office doesn’t exactly say that, unless you read between the lines. But he does decide to defend his lawless actions in appointing somebody to the position of state tourism director and criti

The Chinese government just approved the implementation of next-generation 3G wireless services. The country’s regulation body would issue license for each of the three major standards: the homegrown TD-SCDMA standard as well as the global standards the CDMA 2000 and W-CDMA.

The two international 3G standards had implemented in the United States, Europe and Asia.

The world’s biggest market for wireless service intends to pursue its own 3G wireless standard, TD-SCMA technology, to reduce royalty and patent payments for the use of the CDMA 2000 and W-CDMA (also known as UMTS) technologies.

Ah, 2008. What a kick in the pants this past year has been. It was a year of presidential campaigns, a housing crisis, an economic crisis, a stock market crash and a partridge in pear tree for which the Notice of Default has been reportedly filed. In this, our third installment of The Year in Review, it was a little harder to find the high points among a sea of lows, but I gave it my best. So, without further ado, I bring you… 2008: THE YEAR THAT GENERALLY SUCKED January Sensing that some

Wrapping up the last update for 2008. First off, when you have a chance, go check out the site "Obama Conspiracy Theories". Like "What's Your Evidence", VERY useful information. Not to mention entertaining. Two things I'm noticing with the Birthers. First is a lot of them seem to be involved with the "tax rebellion" movement. The "We The People Tax Cheats" for example, not to mention several other figures. Donald Sullivan of the defunct case Sullivan v Marshall is another. Several Ron Paul f

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s choice of a veteran black politician to fill President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat could be a shrewd move, potentially helping win over black lawmakers eyeballing his impeachment and perhaps even jurors in his corruption case. But is the appointment enough to save the embattled two-term Democrat in the face of nearly universal opposition? “There’s no empathy for him because he’s done a good thing,” said state Sen. Donne Trotter, a black Democrat from

This last day of the year is the whole political year condensed. Let’s review the past 24 hours as it relates to the past year: Race-baiting Obama-style (meaning charges of racism as a political ploy which insults the real civil rights movement as the charges are devoid of any substance, indeed those yelling “racism” are the race-baiters) is back in the headlines; Obama is on a cushy Bushy vacation, again; national Dimocrats are stumbling and bumbling and full of corrupt intentions; Illinois

Review: Scalawags Whitefish & Chips, Brighton, Michigan This particular blog post has been a long time coming. I began writing it Monday December 29th and was interrupted by a phone call from my sister Barb telling me our dad had passed away. He was 85. Looking through the draft of this post I found an odd coincidence. Early on I mention the Fish-n-Chips at the family restaurant at the intersection of Belsay and Lapeer Roads in Burton, Michigan. In 2004 dad and I went to see the film Hellbo

A friend sent me a painfully funny month-by-month Year in Review by the comedian Dave Barry, available at Mr. Barry’s weblog here. A few tidbits: * John McCain, still searching for the perfect running mate, tells his top aides in a conference call that he wants ‘’someone who is capable of filling my shoes.” Unfortunately, he is speaking into the wrong end of his cellular phone, and his aides think he said ‘’someone who is capable of killing a moose.” * Barack Obama, in a historic triumph, bec

has threatened to pull Comedy Central, MTV and 17 other channels on Thursday. So, what is Viacom really asking for? It wants more money from Time Warner — approximately 23 cents more per subscriber each month.  Multiply that with Time Warner’s 13 million subscribers (not all are affected) and the total comes out to an extra $35.9 million a year.  That’s 12 percent increase, which means that Time Warner is already paying Viacom $299 million a year, or $23 per subscriber a year. Essentially, the

2008 has been a crazy year. Records were broken, records were sold, and bands shot to stardom faster than you could say “who’s that guy with the guitar?” I blogged about a lot this year, but there was still a lot that I didn’t have time to cover. At the end of each year, I like to sit down and at least touch on some notable things, especially the things I missed, and it always turns into a neat little roundup. However, the format I’ve used previously now feels tired and is a bore to write. So i

Director: Riccardo Freda (& Mario Bava)First released: 1956Contains spoilersThis film is often seen to be Mario Bava’s directorial debut and yet, whilst credited as cinematographer, he was uncredited as director. This is because Freda shot half the film in the first 10 days of a 12 days shoot and then left the set. The producers asked Bava to finish the film in the last two days. This is not only an important film due to Bava’s debut, but because it was the first Italian horror film since silent
