EmporiaLife Senior Citizen PhoneThe EmporiaLife handset for senior citizens passed through the FCC today. The EmporiaLife is similar to other senior citizen handsets currently available, such as the Jitterbug, and will feature 3 large buttons on the front of the handset. The main difference with this handset is that it features a slide out keypad and a large red button on the back of the phone for emergencies.

Overall, the EmporiaLife senior citizen phone looks pretty promising. I like that the contacts pop up right on the main menu and of course the slider design is nice. There is also a built-in flashlight and alarm clock.

The EmporiaLife hasn’t been announced by any carriers yet, but may be picked up in the near future.

By Barry Rubin Radical forces in the Middle East have rewritten the international rulebook in a way designed so “they can’t lose.” That is, there’s no easy response to their behavior and strategies. What’s even more worrisome is the widespread failure in the West even to realize this is happening. Hamas and Hizballah fire from among civilians and use civilian homes for military purposes; Syria or Iran deploy disinformation, radical regimes pretend moderation, and there are plenty of suckers t

are 'just words'? I hope everyone got this memo today: When your entire campaign is based upon a claim of experience, it is important that you have evidence to support that claim. Hillary Clinton's argument that she has passed "the Commander- in-Chief test" is simply not supported by her record. There is no doubt that Hillary Clinton played an important domestic policy role when she was First Lady. It is well known, for example, that she led the failed effort to pass universal health insurance

2G is Dead in Japan

Mar 11, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized

Japan 2GSecond generation handsets are dead in Japan. In January, Japanese handset retailers did not sell any 2G phones. Japan along with Korea have been spearheading handset growth in the world.

The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association announced the brutal truth for 2G: “For the first time, the number of second-generation models was zero.”

NTT DoCoMo Inc, Japan’s largest wireless provider, was the first to offer 3G technology i 2001. Despite Japan’s enthusiasm to kill 2G it is not the first country to go 100% 3G coming behind neighbors South Korea. As of last month, 85% of Japanese are using 3G cellphones.

Paul Davidson of the USA Today called me last week seeing comment for a story he said he was putting together on the legacy of Kevin Martin's FCC. I did not hold back during the interview. I told Davidson in no uncertai

The other week, I had a phone call from a composer who was pushing a recent recording that included a work of his which he assured me was “listener-friendly” and which he knew my audience would enjoy listening to. When I heard his piece of music, whether it has a genuine integrity or not, all I heard was something that rem
