Sony Ericsson is releasing phones in purple colors. The cellies looks as yummy as eggplants but they are not new models but two of Sony Ericsson’s most desirable new releases.
The W380i Walkman Phone is a triband GSM phone with EDGE. It features gesture control so the phone loads an application at the shake of the hand. Unlike the Apple iPhone it has a built-in FM tuner. The built-in TrackID allows you to record unknown songs and then allow the phone to identify the artist and the title.
The K770i is a Cyber Shot phone with a 3.0 megapixel camera. It’s also a triband GSM phone with TrackID and additional software for picture blogging.
This is the first time we’ve heard of a cellphone manufacturer trying to appeal to the “purple color” market. We’ve heard of people who like pink handsets but if SE manages to market enough of their purple phones it’s going to be very interesting news indeed.

We're back from Las Vegas after having been at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show. CES this year was pretty slow as far as cell phones were concerned. We did see Motorola's very slick E8 "morphing" phone, along with the company's new Z10, W270, and W230. Sony Ericsson showed off 3 new phones, including the slick looking W760 and W350 Walkman phones, but that was pretty much everything as far as handsets go. There were a few new handset sightings of note, like LG's Vu, and we got to see some cool current models that aren't normally available in the U.S., but overall there wasn't much to talk about.
It was a decent year for Bluetooth headsets, though. Joby was showing off its cool Zivio headset, Samsung had the new stereo SBH700 on show, and even Jabra had the titanium clad JX20 in its meeting room. BlueAnt had its voice controlled V1 in town, and Sony Ericsson had its new MAS-100 Bluetooth stereo case/speaker on hand, as well. Bluetooth certainly seems to have a lot going for it right now.
The "big" news at CES this year was in televisions. ...

CES - Sony Ericsson has three new phones and they don’t look like the Sony Ericsson phones that we’ve come to love.
From the left: the W350 is a Walkman Phone that shares little in terms of design with its predecessors (compare with the W580). It’s 10mm thin with the bottom part flipping to reveal the keypad. It’s a medium range phone with an onboard 1.3 megapixel camera and 512MB of memory.
The W760 is the higher end of the three with HSDPA connectivity. It is a slider with GPS and pre-loaded with Wayfinder Navigator and Google Maps. Onboard is a 3.2 MP camera. Motion Sensor Gaming is a pretty exciting addition. The phone is bound to be very popular. We’re hoping it doesn’t cost a fortune.
Lastly, Sony Ericsson has released their most sylish clamshell yet with their Z555. It will be available this quarter. The gesture control lets you switch between call and mute when you flip back and forth. Pas your hand over the phone to turn ff alarm… ooh
Sony Ericsson announced 3 new handsets: the Sony Ericsson W760, W350 and Z555. The first two being Walkman phones, while the last one is a glamorous looking flip phone. The Sony Ericsson W760, W350 and Z555 all come with a fair amount of features and will certainly be hot when released.
PhoneScoop has good feature run-downs of the recently announced handsets:
Sony Ericsson today revealed the Z555, an elegant clamshell phone which combines a rich feature set with striking good looks. With a unique diamond reflective finish on the front, and sophisticated details, it truly reflects your personality. Choose between Diamond Black and Dusted Rose and you will soon get noticed.
Sony Ericsson today announced the W760, a global Walkman phone with tri-band HSDPA, enabling broadband speed downloads of the latest music and content wherever in the world it is used. Offering music on your mobile and much more, the phone delivers built-in GPS to help you find that secret gig, distinctive Stereo Speakers for sharing your music and the latest hit games, including Need for Speed ProStreet.
Sony Ericsson today announced the launch of the W350, a Walkman phone that offers the perfect blend of style and function. Featuring for the first time from Sony Ericsson a flip phone that allows you to control your music at your fingertips.
EngadgetMobile gets some hands-on with the Sony Ericsson W350i. They obviously like the Sony Ericsson W350i’s look and features, but it looks a bit flimsy, as they write: “We can overlook software glitches as the handset isn’t close to hitting retail, but the Sony Ericsson W350i’s flip is cheap, and I mean real floppy cheap. When in the closed position the flip doesn’t actually seat — we saw this on two different handsets — nor does it have an I-will-last-a-long-time feel.”
The handset should be available later this year, probably in Q3 or Q4 of 2008. No word on pricing yet.
The Sony Ericsson Z555 is designed to reflect your look and attract attention. The Sony Ericsson Z555 also contains a new feature called Gesture Control. This feature allows you to control calls and the alarm with the swipe of your hand. It’s an interesting concept, but we’ll see how effective it actually is.
The Sony Ericsson Z555 features include Bluetooth connectivity, FM radio, Speakerphone, 1.3 MP Camera, Text & Image Messaging among other things.
Differnt versions of the Sony Ericsson Z555 will be available in different markets. The Sony Ericsson Z555i will work on the following networks: EDGE/GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900. While the Z555a will work on the following networks: EDGE/GSM/GPRS 850/1800/1900. You can expect both versions to be available in Q1 of 2008.
