Panasonic plans to release its 3G the P706ie market in Japan by NTT DoCoMo, which will be available on August 15.

Panasonic is planning to improve the clarity of cellphone displays. They think by using low-voltage plasma technology on cellphone displays and can do better than LCD screens and even OLED screens in general. The plasma screens will be sourced from AbleComm.

Miniature plasma will offer a more attractive experience for potential subscribers of Mobile TV, a service which AT&T recently launched. Panasonic is enthused enough:

“Many of our new phones will have vibrant color plasma screens that can run on just 1.5 volts and won’t require any additional wiring or special power supplies. We’ll be able to put plasma in cell phones, business phones, consumer phones, corded phones, cordless phones, and even door intercom monitors and fax machines. We will revolutionize the consumer electronics business, as Panasonic has done many times before.”

Hopefully, they’ll also find a way to increase screen space while keeping the handset portable. I wonder how the Japanese are going to react to this announcement.

Panasonic revealed plans to include plasma video displays for cell phones to use with AT&T's recently announced Mobile TV service.

"For nearly a decade, Panasonic's engineers have been secretly working on a thin, lightweight low-voltage compact plasma display," stated Mark Balsama, Panasonic Communication Systems Group Marketing Manager. "Many of our new phones will have vibrant color plasma screens that can run on just 1.5 volts and won't require any additional wiring or special power supplies. We'll be able to put plasma in cell phones, business phones, consumer phones, corded phones, cordless phones, and even door intercom monitors and fax machines. We will revolutionize the consumer electronics business, as Panasonic has done many times before."

Panasonic says it will be able to incorporate newly developed, miniature plasma displays in cell phones starting this fall. They will rival OLED displays for brightness, contrast and thinness, and can be manufactured for much less money.

With all the new technologies popping up everywhere within the mobile work, it is not surprising that Panasonic’s newest design, the KX-WP800 has Skype capabilities. Skype is downloadable software that allows users to make calls to anyone in the world via the internet. This service is provided free to cell phones users and also supports other methods of data communication such as text messaging, file transfers, and video conferencing. Although the KX-WP800’s availability in the in the Western Hemisphere is unknown, it will be released in Japan at the end of the month. Hopefully, upon its release, we will be hearing good things from its users.
