We don't get it... It looks like Verizon intends to sell the Palm Centro for a whole $269.99 on a 2-year contract before $70 mail-in rebate starting June 13.

Maybe there's a typo here, or will they include a complementary $100 bill with each handset they sell?

Verizon Palm CentroThe Verizon Palm Centro phones are starting to arrive at retail stores. The Verizon Palm Centro is an upcoming handset set to arrive any day now. A new photo was taken of the device at Circuit City (dummy version anyway), signaling a release is very near. The handset is blue in color, but you can expect more colors to follow shortly.

The Verizon Palm Centro specs will include: Push-to-talk support, Palm’s OS and will have touch-display. Its QWERTY is reported to be as good as those of Treos. The handset will also feature a 1.3-megapixel camera and support EV-DO. Don’t expect the Verizon Palm Centro to handle all your business needs, but it’s still a little gem for the money.

Verizon Palm Treo 800wThe Verizon Palm Treo 800w is on it’s way. The Verizon Palm Treo 800w has been rumored to come in the Q3, 2008 along with the Samsung i770. The handset takes on a pretty typical Palm look, although it looks more like the Centro than other models. The phone will also be available for Sprint, so Verizon folks won’t have exclusivity on it.

The Verizon Palm Treo 800w is set to feature: Windows Mobile 6 Professional, 1xEVDO & Rev. A, 1.3 megapixel camera,  GPS (VZ Navigator), WiFi, Stereo Bluetooth & Bluetooth 2.0, microSD, 256 MB Flash & 128 MB RAM. Not a bad set of features on the new handset. Centro Makes it for Palm

Jun 3, 2008 Filed under: Palm

Palm Centro sellsWe have our doubts about the diminutive Palm Centro but the little guy proved us wrong. After selling hot and reaching the one million mark, the Palm Centro helped its manufacturer climb from a 7.9% to 13.4%. It’s definitely not the OS. Although may be planning more Windows Mobile phones in the future, the success of Centro makes a very crucial point. Even in smartphones, form factor may be a bigger consideration for consumers than the operating system.

A powerpoint slide obtained by Engadget is showing a Treo 800w Q3 release date. This is similar to the Sprint release date in a rumor report few months back. The specification is still showing the Windows Mobile 6 Professional with no indication of the newer version 6.1 instead.

Other than Treo 800w, another windows mobile smartphone, the Samsung i770 will be available in Q3 this year too.

In a recent interview with APC, Palm CEO Ed Colligan said the company’s long-awaited operating system of the future will center around the Internet, and be distinct from the familiar Palm OS that’s currently available.

Although Colligan didn’t mention the difference between the Nova OS and the Android OS (Google), he looked pretty confident in the Nova OS, described the “Nova” OS as a “next-generation operating system with much more capabilities, driven around the Internet and Web-based applications.”

Besides that, Colligan also admitted the mistake of splitting the Palm OS operating system from PalmSource in 2003, causing Palm lost control of the operating system, and forced to use four-year old operating system on its Treo and Centro smartphones.

He also mentioned that Palm will continue to release devices based on the classic Palm, and Mobile Treos for business customers. He said. Nova will be used on something in between a Centro and a Treo, but the company has yet to decide on the naming convention for that new category.

The Treo 850 will be running the windows mobile 6.1 professional. Similar to the upcoming Treo 800w, it will come with built in WiFi and will be using a micro-USB connector for battery charging and desktop sync. Palm Treo 850The new Palm Treo 850 may have WiFi, the leaked photos of the RIM phone has revealed. It has a similar form factor as the Palm Centro. The main difference is the OS. The 850w will be running Windows Mobile, which in itself is bigger news than a new Treo model. Has Palm finally decided to abandon its software? If the 850w turns out to be a bigger succes than the Centro, Palm may not have a choice.

Sprint Palm Treo 800w On Sale Soon

May 16, 2008 Filed under: Palm

Sprint Palm Treo 800wThe Sprint Palm Treo 800w will be here soon. The Sprint Palm Treo 800w is the new and improved 700w, but basically keeps the same, typical Palm look. The new handset is scheduled to arrive on July 22nd - although it’ll have some steep competition from the new HTC’s set to release around that time as well.

The Sprint Palm Treo 800w features include: Windows Mobile 6.1, EV-DO Rev. A, GPS, a 320 x 320 touchscreen, and a typical Treo look. So, if you’re into smartphones, the Sprint Palm Treo 800w is definitely worth looking at. Although, you may just opt for one of the new HTC’s or the Samsung Instinct - all of which pack some impressive features.
