It’s a little shocking to see the photo of Moto’s new handset. It appears to be a previously unknown Transformer that disguises itself as a little armadillo. The M990 is not meant to be carried around unlike other Motorola phones. The M990 is designed to stay in your car and should function as both cell phone and GPS.
The specifications includes a triband GSM connectivity, Bluetooth and GPS. As an in-car communications device, this is all you need. Memory is through card slots and has a slot for SIMs just like an ordinary cell phone.
What I’m thinking in relation to recent rumors about Moto’s cell phone business, the in-car navigation business could be a major component in Moto’s bail-out strategy. The name Motorola always hit me as a car phone company anyway.

Cnet reviews the Motorola i570: “The Motorola i570’s (Sprint-Nextel) blind eye toward the latest design fad is a nice change, to be honest, even if that makes us sound a bit old. At 3.66 inches by 1.97 inches by 1 inches and 4.59 ounces, the Motorola i570 isn’t the most compact flip phone around, but it’s actually pretty small as Nextel handsets go. It fits neatly in a pocket or bag, and it has a solid and sturdy feel in the hand. The front and rear faces may be plastic but the phone’s edges are surrounded with a rubbery material. Not surprisingly, the Motorola i570 is certified to military standards for dust, shock, and vibration. But what is surprising is that the handset is the first phone we’ve seen in a while that has an extendable antenna.
The good: The Motorola i570 has a simple, easy-to-use design with comfortable controls. It offers good call quality.
The bad: The handset has a small external display.
The bottom line: The Motorola i570 is a solid choice for Nextel fans who want a simple, no-nonsense cell phone.”

2007 was a difficult year for Motorola, and now they think of spinning off or even selling their handset division altogether, as this way the company will separate its businesses and recover about $20 billion in shareholder value.

PhoneScoop user reviews the Motorola V262: “The Motorola V262 (Cricket, Alltel) is a good phone, however some features do not live up to their name. Two major problems I’ve found:
1. The date book alarms don’t work. They go off at the incorrect time, or don’t go off at all. I’ve twice returned my Motorola V262 in for repair and 3x traded for completely different phones through Alltel. The date book alarm reminders still don’t work!
2. The Motorola V262 has serious problems with the speaker phone. I was informed by an Alltel technical support representative that the speaker is the #1 reason for return of the Motorola V262 and that the speakers are being replaced on every phone coming in, whether that was requested or not.
Those are my two chief complaints. The screen is too small, but this is obvious when you pick it out. The Motorola V262 gets great reception, but mine occasionally drops calls w/ perfect signal strength, but I can’t complain because it occasionally makes calls with horrible signal strength. To be fair the Motorola V262 is the best phone for the money, as long as you don’t use the date book and make sure the speaker doesn’t have a problem.”

If Motorola does end up getting out of the mobile phone business, we hope it's not counting on walkie-talkies as the future. Moto has already launched its fashionable "TLKR" line, and now we hear that it's launching a new "Talkabout" two-way radio with a camo design ...
Motorola's announcement Thursday that it might sell or spin off its cell phone business has hit a major disconnect with analysts, who call it a risky and difficult strategy

As the world's No. 3 mobile phone maker, Motorola said it is also exploring strategic alternatives including a possible separation of its mobile devices business from other units.
The company said it was looking at a "structural and strategic realignment of its businesses to better equip its mobile devices business to recapture global market leadership and to enhance shareholder value."
Analysts said Motorola could get at least $5 billion for the troubled unit. But they cautioned that a sale, spinoff or joint venture won't alter the unit's severe challenges and said the lack of promising products in the pipeline may be a deterrent to any buyer.
Wireless equipment maker LM Ericsson AB surfaced Friday as tentatively interested in Motorola's mobile phone unit.
"As professional business leaders we look at everything, but we would take a very cautious view on such a thing because we do believe you are better off doing it on your own," Carl-Henric Svanberg, the Swedish company's chief executive, told analysts in response to a question on a conference call.
Other companies speculated as potential buyers range from rival handset makers ...

New Verizon Motorola W755 photos and specs have been leaked on the ‘net. The Verizon Motorola W755 is yet to be announced by the carrier, but should be available in the next couple of months. At left is a new photo of the handset. From the looks of it, it may resemble the popular Razr.
Spec-wise, the Verizon Motorola W755 is a simple CDMA/EV-DO clamshell, with 1.3-megapixel camera and a small external display. It has touch-sensitive buttons for music playback control.

Photos of the Motorola i872 iDEN have been leaked on the ‘net today. While specs for the Motorola i872 are not that great, chances are it will be cheap so you can at least have that. Judging from the picture at left, it looks to be a bit bulky as well.
EngadgetMobile has more on the Motorola i872: “Specs are thin for this device but we’re hearing it packs a 1.3 megapixel shooter with LED flash, Bluetooth with A2DP, and an SD slot to bump your memory up for music and such.”
Of course, since this is still rumor for now, we don’t have a price or specific release date for the Motorola i872 iDEN handset.
According to Nomura International’s Richard Windsor, Motorola may be leaving the handset industry to concentrate on being and enterprise and government company. Moto announced a $388 million operating loss last year. According to Windsor, the problem is non-hardware but the software and platform on which Motorola phones operate.
It’s also unlikely a Chinese outfit will buy out Motorola’s handset division as no one has an idea how to bring it up to the time when Moto RAZR ruled.

GSMArena user reviews the Motorola W375: “The Motorola W375’s battery takes forever to chrage, but other than that it’s a nice little phone. Good sound quality, the buttons and screen are big enough, and the camera works pretty good as long as you have good lighting. The Motorola W375 is a great phone for someone who is just starting out, or for someone who wants a basic phone with a few bells and whistles. But, if you are looking for a high-end phone with 3G and megapixels, look somewhere else! Overall, this phone is great for the Average Joe.”

The AT&T Motorola W760r is the soon to be replacement for the W365. The AT&T Motorola W760r is different from it’s predecessor by gaining WCDMA of some sort, hopefully HSDPA, and a 2 megapixel camera. The phone does keep the stubby antenna of the previous model though.
