Mobile-review have posted part two of their HTC Touch Diamond review. Here is their final conclusion. The Diamond’s reception quality is nothing to write home about – while it catches the signal wherever it’s only possible, it takes much longer (up to 30-50 seconds!) than normal to actually find a network. Its earpiece volume is just fine – 60-70% volume level should be enough to ensure a crystal clear conversation. As for the loudspeaker it’s nothing special, we even missed some calls with it

With a similar hardware or software between the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Victor, a few Taiwan users who bought the Victor are annoyed by the A-GPS support. According to the HTC in a letter replied to them, “With regards to your inquiry, please kindly be informed that HTC sells different specifications products in different shipping locations. We’ve confirmed that Touch Victor doesn’t support A-GPS function”.

htc-p3702-victor-unbox-10

According to another HTC engineer in HTC Care center in Taiwan, the HTC Victor’s hardware does support A-GPS, but was disabled by the firmware released in Taiwan. Perhaps a quick fix of new firmware by the clever folks at xda-developer will get the A-GPS activated on HTC Victor?

Note that the T-Mobile Compact IV is actually the HTC Victor, anyone can confirm if it does have A-GPS?

The guys over at XDA-Developers.com have been busy, as usual. This time they have found a way to unlock GSM 850MHz support on the HTC Touch Diamond, paving the way for the device to be used reliably on AT&T.

Suppose to be available today (July 15th), according to the company announcement on their blog, Fhauge from Opera Blog has posted another update on their blog that the beta release of Opera Mobile 9.5 will be delayed to July 17th. The engineers are working on fixing some bugs, as well as a testing process to make sure a better bug-free version.

htc-touch-diamond-phonemag-2-74

From the company blog,

As you can imagine, we encountered a few bugs last week that we needed to fix before we launch. Our engineering team worked through the weekend to fix the bugs. Even though our release is a beta, we’d rather spend the extra time to fix them, thus giving you a better experience. The fixes are almost complete now, but we need two more days to run the build through our quality assurance testing. The new launch date is now set for the 17th.

We’re disappointed to delay, but fixing these bugs will improve the experience with our beta and let you fully test the browser.

While Opera Mobile is a commercial version, you can also take a look at the free Opera Mini- a nice java version of internet browser.

There's no getting away from comparisons to Apple's upcoming iPhone 3G these days, so here it is: The HTC Touch Diamond was built as a follow up to the HTC Touch, launched last year as a Windows Mobile-based competitor for the original iPhone.

Here is yet another leak on the Sprint roadmap in Q3 2008 from a forum member in SprintUsers forum. Similar to what we have heard, the new Palm Treo 800w will be announced/released on July 13th. Motorola RAZR VE20 and the new Sanyo Katana Eclipse (SCP-6750) are planned for August 17th release. The Sanyo Katana Eclipse  would probably the next slim clam shell phone from Sanyo Katana family.
