Reviews on the latest and best mobile phones on the market.
PhoneArena reviews the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130: “With RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 not only do CDMA customers get a Pearl of their own, but they get an upgraded one to boot. Notable changes from the original 8100 include upping the camera to 2 megapixels, moving the microSD slot so it is easily accessible, a 3.5mm headset jack and, probably most importantly, 3G data (EVDO). Other important features of the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 included GPS, a SureType keypad and of course, BlackBerry’s excellent push email service.
We ended up with very mixed feelings about the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130. The email setup and delivery is fantastic, and from a multimedia standpoint the Pearl is a standout. However, we couldn’t recommend the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 to users looking just for a strong multimedia phone due to the overall experience. The OS is plenty customizable, but still intimidating to a new user and even experienced users will find annoyances. Conversely, corporate users will like the power the BlackBerry OS but we don’t see them adapting well to the tiny and cumbersome SureType keypad. We feel the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 has a lot of stand out qualities, but in ...
Cnet reviews the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320: “The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320 still offers a best-of-breed design that beautifully combines a full QWERTY keyboard into a sleek and compact form factor (4.2 inches high by 2.4 inches wide by 0.6 inch deep; 3.9 ounces). With such a slim profile and small weight, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320 is comfortable to hold and use as a phone, even though it has a wider body than regular cell phones. The outer edges also have a soft-touch finish to give it a rubbery texture, thus making it easier to grip. Unlike the AT&T version, T-Mobile offers two color options: pale gold or titanium.
The good: The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320 offers integrated Wi-Fi and works with T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home service so you can make calls via Wi-Fi. The smart phone also features a nice, sleek design; a spacious QWERTY keyboard; a 2-megapixel camera; popular IM clients; and good call quality.
The bad: The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320’s camera can’t record videos, and there’s no 3G support. The BlackBerry Web browser isn’t quite as sophisticated as those on competing smart phones.
The bottom line: The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320 for T-Mobile is the best BlackBerry ...
Brighthand reviews the RIM BlackBerry 8820: “The RIM BlackBerry 8820 is the new replacement for the slightly older 8800. This smartphonephone has bumped the older model off the for-sale list on AT&T’s web site, but is selling at the same price.
The most notable new feature in the RIM BlackBerry 8820 is Wi-Fi wireless networking, as well as the capability to make calls over any active Wi-Fi connection in place of strong cell tower reception. Just like the T-Mobile HotSpot@Home service, this can help out those who lack proper coverage in a given area, but still have a perfectly good Wi-Fi network up and running.
Like I said earlier, aside from its somewhat limited support for Wi-Fi, the RIM BlackBerry 8820 is basically a 8800. The shape and size haven’t changed, and neither has the software. It would have been nice if RIM had added 3G to the RIM BlackBerry 8820, but it didn’t; this new model still tops out with the 2.5G standard EDGE.”

MobileBurn reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8310: “The BlackBerry Curve 8310 (AT&T) will use TeleNav GPS Navigator in conjunction with its bright 65k color QVGA display to help consumers find their way. Connectivity is provided by the quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM support and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support for stereo headsets.
The Blackberry Curve 8310 maintains the multimedia focus of RIM’s recent handsets by offering a 2.0 megapixel camera, an advanced media player, a 3.5mm stereo audio jack, and a microSD card slot for expanded storage. The BlackBerry Curve 8310 supports AT&T Mobile Music subscription services as well as AT&T’s Push To Talk walkie-talkie communications.”

Cnet reviews the Verizon Wireless Pearl 8130: “The Verizon Wireless Pearl 8130 hasn’t changed much from the original model, but that’s not a bad thing since we’re fans of the Pearl’s overall look. However, there are some slight tweaks.
Thankfully, the Verizon Wireless Pearl 8130 still keeps a slim profile, measuring a slight 4.2 inches long by 1.9 inches wide by 0.5 inch deep and weighing 3.4 ounces. You’ll have no problem slipping this handset into your pants pocket, and it feels comfortable and natural to hold during phone calls. The silver chassis may seem ordinary to some, but we think it’s sleek and attractive.
The good: The Verizon Wireless Pearl 8130 keeps the same sleek design of its predecessor but adds built-in GPS, EV-DO support, and video-recording capabilities. The smartphone’s Web browser is also improved, and it has a 2-megapixel camera. The device’s messaging functions remain strong.
The bad: The SureType keyboard takes some acclimation and call quality could be slightly better.
The bottom line: The Verizon Wireless Pearl 8130 improves on an already impressive smartphone with the addition of GPS, video recording, and 3G support.”

The BlackBerry 9000 is all but officially outed. New rumors of the BlackBerry 9000’s specs and a photo (a bit blurry though) have just been leaked.
SlashPhone has more on the specs: “Lets start with the screen which is either 480×320 or the other way around 320×480, no word whether it will be a touchscreen, or what will happen to the keyboard with that large of a screen. The BlackBerry 9000 is rumored to have a gig of on board storage, and an Intel XScale PXA270 processor running at 624MHz, which is a bit up from the 620MHz ARM processor in the iPhone.
Furthermore, the BlackBerry 9000 is said to have GPS and WiFi, as well as GSM and 3G via HSDPA. The camera is still sitting at the rumored 2 megapixels, but there is supposedly talk of a 3.2MP cam by the time this thing launches.”
So the BGR has some unconfirmed specs for the potential new RIM device known as the BlackBerry 9000 series. They say that one of the devices in that series will have at least these specs, but probably more.

Boy Genius Report has the early specs of RIMs touch screen iPhone iller. The BlackBerry 9000 will be using the 624MHz Intel XScale PXA270, which is 24MHz faster than the iPhone’s processor and HSDPA connectivity. The screen will have 480 x 320 pixels and 1GB of onboard memory. Besides 3.5G HSDPA, the BlackBerry 9000 will have WiFi connectivity and GPS.
The specs above is not much more specific than what we already have from two months ago, but new updates like this assures us that a touch screen BlackBerry isn’t all just rumor.
Orange UK and Research In Motion (RIM) announced the launch of two new Wi-Fi-enabled BlackBerry smartphones to customers in the UK - the BlackBerry Curve 8320 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8120.

RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 8110 Pearl is the latest device in this line-up.
Like the 8130 model it will come with an integrated GPS receiver, and will probably support 3G networks. It should be ava...

LaptopMag reviews the AT&T Tilt: “The AT&T Tilt performed well. Call quality was clear, and calls placed during testing connected quickly and easily. Battery life is rated for 4.5 days of talk time or 8.3 days of standby. We left a fully charged AT&T Tilt on over a long weekend, and when we returned, the unit still had three out of four bars of battery life. We were then able to do a good deal of surfing, checking e-mail, and listening to music before having to power back up.
The AT&T Tilt and the new BlackBerry 8820 both have a lot going for them, but users deciding between the two should take a few things into consideration. The AT&T Tilt is for those who like their smart phones packed to the gills with multimedia bells and whistles and who need the ability to view and edit Office attachments out of the box. The 8820 is for those looking for a sleeker device that’s easy to use, although it doesn’t have 3G. Given that the AT&T Tilt has BlackBerry’s push e-mail functionality, too, this device is a compelling option.”

“The Motorola Q9c, BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and Motorola i335 are now available on Sprint, and while we’re sure you’re up to speed on all the specs, here’s the down low on prices. After a two-year agreement and mail-in rebate, the Motorola i335 will run you $49.99, while the Motorola Q9c demands $149.99 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 rings up at $199.99.”

Our friends at FCC published documents about the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 on FCC website. According to the leaked source, the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 supports GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900MHz), but not CDMA networks (Sorry for Verizon Wireless and Sprint PCs users). Besides that, the best selling point of the 8120 phone is going to be its UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) technology that allows you to seamlessly transfer a call between typical cellular networks and a WiFi network.
Features and specifications of the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 include a built-in GPS navigation system , Wi-Fi support, 2- megapixel digital camera, 3.5mm audio jack, and microSD card slot
The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 has shown up on the FCC’s website. The new BlackBerry Pearl 8120 will be a variation of the current model, but will add a key feature - Wi-Fi.
EngadgetMobile has more: “The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 adds WiFi — a boon for UMA, and likely for T-Mobile’s Hotspot @Home — and also adds a number of improvements seen in the CDMA BlackBerry Pearl that’s been floating around as of late, like a 3.5mm headphone jack and external microSD slot.”

We’ve reported about the BlackBerry 9000, which is supposed to be a touchscreen device that will compete with the Apple iPhone, and haven’t heard much since. There’s still no word from RIM but Carmi Levy, an analyst at AR Communications Inc., says it’s the logical next step for the BlackBerry: a consumer oriented, instead of enterprise-oriented phone. “The 9000 is supposed to be a touch-screen device, very similar in form factor to the iPhone,” Levy says. “Which means that it is not an enterprise-friendly device.
The most likely debut of the touchscreen BlackBerry would be Q1 2008, according to Levy. RIM will keep churning 8000 series BlackBerries because business will still need business phones. These products are likely to be improved incrementally, adding 3G or WiFi or both.
“The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 for Alltel will come in an “amethyst” shade and feature the same GPS, EV-DO, 2 megapixel cam, and external microSDHC slot featured on its Sprint and Verizon cousins. No word on an exact release date of the Alltel BlackBerry Pearl 8130 just yet, but when it is available, it’ll run $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate.”
Alltel Wireless is going to make customers' wireless experience easier and more productive with the announcement that they plan to have the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) available in time for the holidays.
