Apple Cell Phone Reviews

Ultimate Ears has introduced the Super.Fi 4vi, a new set of iPhone earbuds costinging $149.99. Unlike many of the earbuds that are sold for the iPhone, this set actually has an inline control switch that allows you to pause, start or skip music or answer phone calls, just like the Apple earbuds that come with the iPhone. That’s pretty much where the similarities end. The Super.Fi 4vi features the same Ultimate Ears technology used in custom personal monitors for musicians and engineers. The

Nokia Opens Ovi to Apple

Dec 27, 2007 Filed under: Apple

Nokia Ovi for AppleNokia’s all-in-one media media portal Ovi will also be open to Apple if the iPhone maker wishes to use Nokia’s content. “In Finnish, Ovi means door. And our door is open. Of course, Apple can get into our portal. We even invite (Apple Inc chief executive) Steve Jobs to do so,” Nokia’s Anssi Vanjoki says.

Apple is a company known for doing everything on its own and being closed to third-party providers. Since Apple joined the handset industry launching the iPhone on June 29 2007, industry watchers have pitted it with the dominant brand Nokia. Ovi includes Nokia’s Online Music Store (an iTunes rival launched recently), Nokia’s N-Gage and Nokia Maps.

Apple Sells 5 Million iPhone

Dec 23, 2007 Filed under: Apple

Apple iPhone SalesWith the European release of the iPhone, Apple has reached the 5 million mark. Steve Jobs once promised he would sell ten million iPhones by the end of next year. He is halfway there, and we haven’t even seen iPhone 2.0.

The iPhone does not seem to be as popular in Europe as it is in the U.S. The Apple phone has sold 4 million units in the U.S. while Europe has only bough 1 million iPhones. The iPhone hype is also dying down. There have also been reports that the second-gen iPhone will resemble the original with some significant difference like the addition of 3G connectivity. This will lessen iPhone hype considerably. All told, selling 5 million units in six months is not bad for a mobile newbie.

Review: Apple iPod Classic 80GB

Dec 23, 2007 Filed under: Apple

On September 5, Steve Jobs presented the new generation of iPod Video, which was renamed to Classic. At the same time, Apple presented iPod Nano 3rd generation and iPod Touch. New iPod Nano is more square-shaped than 1st and 2nd generation. iPod Touch is very similar to iPhone, but it lacks mobile phone features as well as E-mail (POP3) client.

Chinese iPhone Commercial Spotted

Dec 16, 2007 Filed under: Apple

Chinese iPhone clones have gotten so popular in China one manufacturer actually dared advertising their product on TV. This is a major development in the Chinese knock-off market. The phone is obviously a rip-off of the iPhone. It also boasts a touch scree and a user interface similar to iPhone’s (though we can assume it doesn’t support multi-touch). Even worse, the marketing department of the company that produced this clone uses Apple’s “Think Different” catch phrase, which is copyrighted by Apple.

So, when will Apple sue this Chinese manufacturer. Right now, we have no word from Apple, but it is safe to say that even the unique use of an embedded accelerometer in the phone (shake the phone twice to receive a call), this iPhone clone does not fool anybody.

I know that this thing Meizu calls M9 looks just like the Apple Touch; so there’s no need to tell me that twice. Up until now, all we’ve seen is some 3D rendering of the M9. Well here it is in living color – the first prototype.

Apple iPhone Now Takes Video

Dec 14, 2007 Filed under: Apple

Apple iPhone - VideoThe Apple iPhone is now capable of taking video. Thanks to some iPhone app developers, a preliminary version of video capturing is now possible. It’s pretty amazing the Apple iPhone did not come with this feature built in, seeing as a lot of lower end phones do.

“The Apple iPhone can only take up to 5 seconds of video footage at 15 FPS, but the developers say that this they can get the device at 45 FPS and prolong the capture time.

There are some bugs that need to be fixed on the new software, for example, the videos seems to progress faster than the real time capture.”

iPhone 2.0 Q2 2008

Goldman Sachs’ analyst David Bailey thinks Apple is going to release a new iPhone version in Q2. He says that the second-generation iPhone is almost ready. The second-gen Apple Phone may be preceded by an iPhone with a bigger flash memory, which will be welcome news to Apple fans.

The analyst estimates the new iPhone version will not stray too far from the look of the original but 3G connectivity is almost a certainty. Changes in the LC of Apple Tv and a new Mac line is also seen appearing in about the same time frame.

Nokia Wants to be Like Apple

Dec 11, 2007 Filed under: Apple

The Apple deal with wireless companies distributing the iPhone on an exclusive basis has attracted the world’s largest mobile maker. Nokia, which distributes 40% of the cellphone market, says it will maintain its current business model regarding their mobile phones (being paid per unit, that is) but they will revise how they do business with their services.

Nokia wants a piece of the action whenever a customer uses a Nokia service through a wireless company. With GPS coming to every Nokia phone and the OVI laundry list of services, including the N-Gage gaming platform, Nokia might just have enough leverage to get what it wants - Apple-style revenues.

AT&T iPhone Review - Engadget

Dec 7, 2007 Filed under: Apple

AT&T iPhoneEngadget reviews the AT&T iPhone: “The AT&T iPhone raised the bar not only for the cellphone, but for portable media players and multifunction convergence devices in general.

But getting things done with the AT&T iPhone isn’t easy, and anyone looking for a productivity device will probably need to look on. Its browser falls pretty short of the “internet in your pocket” claims Apple’s made, and even though it’s still easily the most advanced mobile browser on the market, its constant crashing doesn’t exactly seal the deal. The iPhone’s Mail app — from its myriad missing features to its un-integrated POP mail experience to its obsolete method of accessing your Gmail — makes email on the iPhone a huge chore at best.

For us, the most interesting thing about the AT&T iPhone is its genesis and position in the market. Apple somehow managed to convince one of the most conservative wireless carriers in the world, AT&T (then Cingular), not only to buy into its device sight-unseen, but to readjust its whole philosophy of how a device and carrier should work together (as evidenced by the radically modernized and personalized activation process). Only a few days after launch it’s ...

iPhone InternetThe Apple iPhone is responsible for .09% of the total Internet page views in October paling portable rivals running Windows Mobile, which comprised .06% of Internet page views. The vast majority of Internet browsing are still being done using a PC or a Mac but in the portable world, iPhone is clearly the King.

Many phones have Web browsers, but most of the time these were made specifically for mobile devices and only give phone owners access to watered-down versions of Web sites. The iPhone has the same browser as Apple’s computers, meaning iPhone owners can see the same version of Web pages people see on their PCs.

The iPhone has WiFi connectivity but uses high-speed EDGE to connect to the Internet when not in range of a WFi hotspot. However, 1.4 million iPhone users beat all the Windows Mobile customers in Web browsing. Three million Windows Mobile devices has been shipped in the first quarter of 2007 alone.

Apple Announces 3G iPhone for 2008

Nov 30, 2007 Filed under: Apple

3G iPhone 2008It’s been disappointing for fans of 3G technology that this year’s hottest gadget doesn’t have it. Apple could only assure us a 2008 launching of the 3G version.

Apple opted for 2.5G technology instead of 3G having reasoned that 3G drains battery life too fast. The iPhone is equipped with WiFi connectivity for fast browsing of the Internet but has to rely on EDGE for browsing outside a WiFi hotspot. Fans will expect more details during the MacWorld in January and, perhaps, a formal announcement.

Question: Are you willing to sacrifice battery life for 3G connectivity. If you are, how often do you recharge your 3G cell phone?

3G Apple iPhone Coming To AT&T Soon

Nov 30, 2007 Filed under: Apple

Apple iPhoneThe 3G Apple iPhone was outed by AT&T’s CEO today. Of course, the 3G Apple iPhone was expected, but this confirms the rumors. This news should make those heavy data iPhone users quite happy. The only thing holding them back is creating a longer lasting battery, says Steve Jobs.

EngadgetMobile has more on the 3G Apple iPhone: “when AT&T’s CEO Randall Stephenson says, “You’ll have it next year,” well, our ears tend to perk up. The remark was made at a meeting of the Churchill Club in Santa Clara. He didn’t say how much it could cost admitting that Jobs and Apple “will dictate what the price of the phone is.” However, it wouldn’t surprise us if the 3G Apple iPhone fits back into the $599 slot vacated by the 8GB iPhone while toting a full 16GB of flash like the iPod touch.”

Apple iPhoneApple iPhone review from Gizmodo: “The Apple iPhone is what the phone of the future will look like, and Steve Jobs and Apple should be proud. iPhone of 2010 aside, this model must be judged on what it is today. Like every other journalist will tell you, its multitouch UI, browser and Apple iPod are all pants-worthy. But as the honeymoon sets, I find myself left with a phone that could be more functional. I could make comparisons to high-end Nokia or Helio phones that have endless lists of wonderful features like GPS, YouTube video uploading and more. But only a douchebag would tackle the Apple iPhone for lacking esoteric tricks; things that belong on a Wish List for v2.0.

Miscellaneous Goods And Bads about the Apple iPhone:

• Every app always retains state when you leave to take a call.
• It doesn’t have wireless syncing of data over EDGE, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth, using local PC, .Mac, or even Google/Yahoo storage. You sync when you dock with your Mac, which is something other phones can do. But hey, you’re charging the Apple iPhone every day, right? Might as well be by USB.

Fly Mobile SLT100 - Killer iPhone?

Nov 21, 2007 Filed under: Apple

Fly Mobile SLT100 surprising comes with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution touch screen, which we think is almost certainly the least expensive device touch on the British market for prepaid customers.

fly mobile SLT100

Other features of the Fly Mobile SLT100 are quite well too-there is a 2 megapixel with flash, microSD expandable memory, an MP3/AAC player, video player, FM radio, Bluetooth, and a web browser series of functions of personal information management.

Fly SLT100 is fairly typical for a GSM handset, falling to 96 X 49 X 14.9mm and 101 grams in weight. That autonomy is a little short 2.5 hours with 7.5 days standby. The battery is only 600mAh module, which seems a bit on the low side, but in all honesty battery life is probably pretty good for most people.

The Fly Mobile SLT100 is certainly not iPhone killer, but it is incredibly good value for money and the touch screen will appeal to the greatest number. At this kind of price range, the SLT100 is likely to find its way into a lot of stocking stuffer.

While iPhone owners made an average of 5.6 errors/message on their own phone, hard-key QWERTY owners made an average of 2.1 errors/message on their own phone, p < .01. iPhone owners also left an average of 2.6 errors/completed message created on the iPhone compared to an average of 0.8 errors/completed message left by hard-key QWERTY phone owners on their own phone.
