The 8GB versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch has been sold out and Apple will not longer ship more of them. The 8GB versions of the two devices has reached end-of-life status, at least in the U.K. Apple will now concentrate on higher capacity versions of the device. A new iPhone is also expected to be unveiled in June.
This is official folks, announced by Apple in a short letter. Though, apparently, one cannot buy the 8GB versions online there are some available in stores. I don’t know about you, but I don’t need to be carrying around 16GB of files with me. What do you think? Do you think low-capacity iPhones are irrelevant?

Two Citi analysts believe that Apple will announce the new iPhone on June 9 at the WWDC. Along with the 3G version of the iPhone will be a fresh lineup of Apple products including new MacBooks and iPods. There has also been rumors about an entire entire lineup of iPhones that are going to be released in orderly fashion this year and beyond.
Even better news for some people who wouldn’t mind 2.5G connectivity this late in the decade: the original iPhone will have another price cut. All models will sell between US$299 and $349. Remember, this is unofficial and, for all intents and purposes, a figment of the Citi analysts imaginations, but…

As usual, you can get the new Apple iPhone SDK beta 4 from Apple’s developer website.
Apple has purchased PA Semi for a sum of $278 million in cash. PA Semi designs low-power microprocessors that could end up in products such as the iPhone. Apple would not comment on the reason for its purchase, but ...

So you think the iPhone and iPod Touch is going to run on Intel’s Atom processor in the very near future. You might be wrong. Apple has had talks with a chip company, P.A. Semi, that makes extremely efficient processors. Founded by Dan Dobberpuhl, it has developed a 64-bit dual core processor that is 300% more efficient than its closest competitor, using only 5 to 13 watts at 2GHz. Apple has already spent $278 million on the company and it’s only reasonable to suspect they should be using their products soon. Apple has been in talks with P.A. Semi before about putting their processor in Macs but Apple opted for Intel instead. According to Ars Technica “the chip sports over 25,000 clock gates so that clock pulses to different regions of the processor can be shut off dynamically to save power…All of the PA6T’s major on-die components have their own separate clock and voltage domains, so that the L1, L2, DRAM controller, I/O subsystem, and each of the two cores can all be placed in different low-power states independently of one another.”
As for P.A. Semi’s competitors, here is the breakdown:

MMS is the least exciting news from this new patent filed by Apple. The patent mentioned “graphics, photos, audio files, video files and/or other attachments as are supported in a MMS and/or Enhanced Message Service,” which can also mean an IM service supporting multimedia file transfers. Even more interesting is that IM could operate in the background while an iPhone user has another application turned on. If you’ve always wondered where all that OS X potential is going, this is just a foretaste. Multitasking will always be problematic on a small device but Apple may just have found a way to cram all the simultaneous functions in. GPS functionality is great on any phone but what about video conferencing?

At its iPhone SDK event last month, Apple touted an adaption of AOL's instant-messaging client for the iPhone. Now comes news of Apple's own patent application for a chat feature.

Engadget finds it very interesting that a rumor has spread about Apple finally giving up on their revenue-sharing business model for the iPhone, at least for Italy. La Repubblica, a very respected publication in Italy has stated that Apple has agreed with Telecom Italy that the latter may keep all revenues from iPhone subscribers for itself. It’s quite a lovely piece of rumor, don’t you think? Engadget tried getting Telecom Italia’s side but as usual for rumors that have more than a grain of truth in it, the principal refused to make a comment.

April 18, 2008- Apple is creating something new… and different. This new accessory for iPhone allow users a more pleasurable viewing experience when watching movies on their iPhones. The video quality for iPhones is actually pretty good already, but with such a small screen, there is always room for improvement. It is even rumored that in time, users will be able to view full HD movies on the iPhones. Sound quality is also getting better and better. However, the problem that remains is the size on the screen. No matter what the picture quality, a small screen will be hard to view no matter what. Thus comes Apple’s newest brainstorm.
Apple is in the patent application process for the design and creation of a laser based head mounted display for an Apple iPod or iPhone. This device will utilize optical elements and light to generate a large display for users to view while enjoying their Apple products. He design features a box that can be clipped to the user’s belt so as to avoid a lot of bulk on the headset itself. Then, an optical cable will run from the box to the head mount in order to generate an ...

A new Fring beta app brings VoIP to the Apple iPhone. The Fring Apple iPhone VoIP will work with a number of different services, including: Skype, SIP & Google Talk. It also supports multiple IM clients such as Skype, ICQ, Twitter and MSN Messenger.
The Fring Apple iPhone VoIP application is currently in beta testing, but they will soon have a full version available for download. The application is free to download, but depending on which service you go with will determine what the VoIP will cost you.
French gadget site GenerationMP3 is claiming they have a source that confirms Orange is testing the next generation iPhone or iPhone 3G. GMP3 also said the iPod Touch will not only have 3G but GPS as well. Then Crunch Gear drops the biggest bomb of them all: Apple will be releasing an entire line of Apple Phones. An iPhone Shuffle sans the video playback capabilities, and then iPhone Pro or Max, which carries a battery that triples the capacity of the current iPhone. Of course, the iPhone Max will have to compromise on the slim factor adding precious mm to its thickness. A super slim (6.2mm) is also under development. It has the same screen size as the current model but it comes with very basic functionality and 4GB of storage. Sounds plausible. Hopefully, the $159 price tag of this basic Apple Phone won’t come with an exclusive contract.

A new Apple iPhone handwriting recognition application is available. This type of software has been available on Windows Mobile phones for a while now, so it’s about time Apple gets it’s own program. It’s actually a pretty neat application, and best of all - it works!
The new iPhone handwriting recognition application was created by a Chinese developer, so it works for both Chinese characters as well as Latin characters (English included). It’s currently in beta release and has a few bugs to fix, but overall it’s a pretty cool application.
AOL Mobile Search is now available for the Apple iPhone. AOL Mobile Search basically runs the same as it’s normal web portal version. A few changes are that search results will include MapQuest, Moviefone, and AOL CityGuide listings. Not only that, but they will display phone numbers to call instantly and AOL will give priority to iPhone optimized sites.
All in all, AOL Mobile Search for Apple iPhone doesn’t look too bad. Especially considering AOL’s customer base seems to be shrinking more and more. Good job on this one. If you’d like to give it a try, point your Apple iPhone Safari browser to: search.aol.com - and voila!
Start from 16th April, Apple UK will sell the 8GB iPhone £100 cheaper which is reduced from £269 to £169. The 16GB remains at the same price though. Carphone Warehouse will be giving a £100 voucher for those customers who have bought the iPhone in the past 30 days.

3G iPhone is said to be available in the next few months, probably at WWDC 2008, which will be held from 6th June at San Francisco. The new 3G version will have 8GB ($399), 16GB ($499) and a rumor 32GB ($599) version.

SideKick will not be without its operating system which was probably the most delightful mobile OS to use before the iPhone. SideKick phones has probably not been selling at the same brisk pace it enjoyed prior the iPhone’s release. Everyone knows there’s a new “It” phone in town and it’s operating exclusively via AT&T.
Microsoft, as the new owner of Danger, is perhaps a logical choice. It’s Apple’s biggest rival and thus has a lot lose if Apple continues increasing its mobile market share. For SideKick fans, the good news is, Danger will remain intact, but more will be required of the team as Microsoft contemplates its future in the mobile industry (some of the team will join the Premium Mobile Experiences Group at Microsoft).
Britt and Hersenson, founders of Danger, likes the setup: “As we combine our team and technologies with Microsoft, we see a clear path to evolving that experience and delivering it to an even broader group of consumers.”

More rumors on the iPhone. This one is very good news I’m sure for everyone. The 3G iPhone will launch on June 6 at the WWDC 2008 in San Francisco and it will be available in 32GB for $599. Isn’t that a bargain? The other versions are price thus: 8GB ($399), 16GB ($499). The new iPhone is also said to be 2.5mm thinner. The battery is still non-removable. The 8GB looks like a decent phone price, even with the contract. I wonder if we will get a better deal from Apple if we waited a few months after launching.

The 3G Apple iPhone should be on sale by early June. Walt Mossberg & CEO Ralph de la Vega gave strong indication that there would be a 3G Apple iPhone out there in 30 to 60 days from now. The 3G Apple iPhone has been speculated about for a long, long time - but is just now getting some confirmation.
Also, some sources in Asia say that Apple has placed a very large order for new iPhones - which is probably the new 3G handsets themselves. The 3G Apple iPhone’s will run on EDGE, making the data speeds much faster. Who knows, we may even see some features get upgraded as well. The sooner they come out the better!
The LHO1 has something that the iPhone lacks: a stylus. I’ve always thought the iPhone user interface might do better with an optional stylus input. Chinese manufacturer’s, those inclined to knock off Apple, have their heart in the right place when they release iPhone copies with styluses. The LHO1 is of that tradition. The manufacturer describes it as a PDA phone. It’s a triband GSM phone with a touchscreen that vibrates (I suppose another way of saying tactile feedback) with Bluetooth 2.0. Sadly there is no WiFi. The phone uses TransFlash memory card that maxes out at 2GB. This is a cheap one at only $159. The manufacturer does not mention Office support, and we wonder why not since they are calling this a PDA phone.

The England legendary football player David Beckham celebrates his 100th contribution to the English national footbal team by release a 32 GB iPod Touch by his colleagues just for him in gold which cost around £600.

I thought the David Beckham iPod Touch will be release and sold with limited edition in public market, so it will produce more profit. But who knows it will the only one iPod Touch and later the iPod will auction in Ebay or another place?

Simon, writing in Mobile Commandos, like Americans to accept that porn is normal to mobile phone as it is to computers. He says, “as long as the internet’s involved, portable devices will inevitably be loaded up with the hottest, sexiest, and tiniest porn available.” He argues, correctly, that mobile porn is common enough in Europe and parts of Russia. He thinks the Apple Phone s the ideal device to make porn more attractive to mobile users. Equipped with a large 3.5-inch screen with 480 x 320-pixel resolution, the iPhone is better than any popular mobile device for viewing content. With multi-touch screen, the iPhone can help develop new ways of appreciating porn. Besides, Simon, argues, phones are much more private than computers. If one can keep porn in a computer (imagine your kids opening up the browser in your computer and viewing the porn the porn in cache there) why not on a phone?

JAJAH is building on its current Apple iPhone call-back offering by participating in the iPhone Developer Program to create possibly the first native global VoIP application. The new global VoIP application is expected to be available this summer, close to the iPhone 2.0 software release.

The major addition that the second beta of the iPhone SDK brings is the Interface Builder. This nifty little tool will allow you to drag and drop in order to build the user interface for your application.

Tools like that make it on par with languages such as Visual Basic which make building new apps fast, easy, and convenient. Granted, using the drag and drop method may not give you the appearance you really want, but using it to complete a large portion of the code for you, and then changing the way things look a bit is a lot easier than trying to reinvent the wheel every time you write a new app.
Apple also added in some new sample code and updated the documentation that comes with the SDK. Sadly there isn’t a simple update option for the new SDK, you actually have to go get it yourself, but it’s still free. Apple is also still reported to be limiting access to the App Store and still limiting the participation in the $99 iPhone Dev Program.

For Apple to sell 45 million iPhones next year, it would have to quadruple its sales from 2008.
Yes, that's more than a bit optimistic. The analyst who originally made that sales prediction for Apple back before the phone was even launched is at it again, though, on Monday ...
Apple iPhoneApple is expected to launch a high-speed wireless version of iPhone in the second quarter and produce as many as 8 million of the devices in the third quarter, according to Bank of America.
"Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after an initial small build in May," said Bank of America analyst Scott Craig.
AT&T said last year it expects to be able to sell a 3G version of iPhone in 2008, but it declined comment on specific launch dates on Friday. Taiwan-based Hon Hai, which operates stateside under the trade name Foxconn Electronics, is currently in the bidding for the 3G iPhone contract from Apple. Should Hon Hai successfully land the contract, it could ship an additional 10 million mobile handsets per year. Apple declined to comment.

The source of this rumor is a bit strange. Cnmo.com, a Chinese site, doesn’t exactly fit the bill as a reliable source for Apple news. To be fair, Cnmo isn’t exactly telling us that Microsoft IDS developing a version of MS Office for the iPhone’s touch screen GUI. There are two things the site points out that is very intriguing: Microsoft earns a lot of money from its Office software. That’s number one. Number two: Office will fit in very well in a touch screen environment. Well, if Microsoft does release an iPhone version of the MS Office, we’ll definitely be tempted.
